WHEN IS A DOOR A BARRIER?

By Frederick Neal, ACE Certified Professional

“Setting unrealistic or overly ambitious wellness goals can lead to frustration and disappointment if they are not achieved, making you more likely to give up.”

Being and staying healthy is a process. It’s a continuous journey where you pass from one door to another - to a level of self-awareness and wellbeing. Each door requires a different level of dedication and commitment. But doors don’t always open when you knock. So, when does a door become a barrier?

Success in wellness can be impeded by various barriers, which can be both internal and external. These barriers can make it challenging for you to achieve your wellness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Breaking free of pre-existing unhealthy habits, must be your first order of defense from self-sabotage and taking inventory of unhealthy or non-productive habits is the first step.

The American lifestyle provides everyone with a busy schedule, work demands and family responsibilities that can leave little time for self-care and wellness activities. Many of us find it difficult to fit exercise, cooking healthy meals, or relaxation into our routines. Wellness activities can be costly. Financial limitations can prevent us from accessing resources that support our well-being.

Moreover, navigating nutritional information about proper nutrition, exercise techniques, or stress management can make it challenging to make informed decisions about wellness. Emotional challenges like stress, anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem can hinder progress in wellness efforts. These issues may lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and a lack of motivation to take care of yourself.

Peer pressure, societal norms, and cultural factors can influence unhealthy behaviors and attitudes towards wellness. A lack of support from family, friends, or colleagues can make it challenging to stay motivated and committed to wellness goals.

A door becomes a barrier - when it does not open. I can help you break down the barriers that hold you back. As a trained and experienced wellness professional I take a flexible and compassionate approach towards your wellness journey. Recognizing and addressing barriers will help you create a more sustainable and successful path towards improved wellness.
